About
Maria Bampali is an artist, born and raised in Athens, Greece, and now based in London. She received her MFA from Goldsmiths (2025) and her BFA with First-Class from Central Saint Martins (2021).
Her practice, primarily centred on painting and its expansive forms, explores subjects related to fragments of memory, notions of place and reimagining cultural heritage. Through a poetic mark-making, Bampali explores what is 'half-remembered' and what 'can be rebuilt anew' by moving delicately between semi-figuration and abstraction. Through recurrent calligraphic motifs and a colour palette that evokes a Mediterranean sensibility, her work blends the otherworldly and ephemeral, moving beyond past and present; the native and every day.
